This is far from a complete list, but a good beginning to

SEEK PLEASURE OR IT WON'T SEEK YOU

First of all, let's understand the role of pleasure in a Tantric life.
Why do you do anything, anything at all? To hurt yourself and
others? Come on, when you really look at the choices you've
made, it's because at some level you believe they'll make you feel
better. Sure, you might be making your choices based on what
think you're "supposed to do." But in the long run, don't you do
what you've been taught because then others will approve of you,
which will make you feel good? Or because if you don't you'll end
up feeling bad?
Instead of being motivated to avoid discomfort, embarrassment,
or pain in life, Tantra guides us to directly and actively seek
what makes us feel good. Cut out the middle man and go right
for the gusto.
Which is why one of Tantra's basic principles is...
"Nothing is more important than that you feel good right now."
To do this you need to learn to heighten your experience of the
moment, get in touch with your feelings, and judge what brings
you pleasure. Then, according to the Tantric sages, your life will
expand and evolve just the way you want it to.
Since many of us are programmed with a strong injunction
against selfishness, this first Tantric guideline is hard for many
to swallow. We're raised believing that thinking only of ourselves
is a big sin. So we don't think of our own mental health and
physical well-being enough. As a result, we feel guilty when we
look after ourselves or we do things that don't bring us joy.
Which makes us stressed, moody, grumpy, and resentful.
Tantra doesn't encourage us to exclude other's feelings, needs,
and happiness. It just teaches us that in order to help others,
give emotional support, and be there for them that we've got to
look after our own selves first.
In other words, wouldn't it be better to be happy so you're more
able to cheer up everyone around you? Would you rather have a
depressed lover who clings to you or an independent one who
bubbles over with their zest for life and drags you forward
instead of backwards? That's the spirit of Tantra at work in the
everyday world.
We've got lots more to say about how seeking pleasure is a good
thing for all of us when we talk about Tantric relationships soon.
Before we move on, though, let us just point out that seeking
pleasure yourself first is essential to healthy relationships,
families, communities, and the entire world itself.
ACCEPT YOURSELF OR NO ONE WILL LOVE YOU
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
You won't be able to feel good for very long if you don't like
yourself. If you don't think you're good enough or deserve to
enjoy pleasure, the previous guideline won't do you much good,
will it?
So transforming your life with Tantra includes the primary step
of learning to love yourself. OK, we understand you don't look
enough like the starving models on glamour magazines or the
hunks in action flicks. We're sure that as proud as they are, all of
our parents would have liked us to turn out differently. Yes, we
know, your own behavior doesn't measure up to your goals and
standards for yourself.
First of all, driving yourself to compete with advertising images
is senseless. Care about your looks and your health, of course, but
accept what God gave you and make the best of it. Somraj
laments those early years when he made himself crazy trying to
have straight hair. When he finally accepted his natural curls, not
only was he happier, he became more popular. Then, people
even used to ask him where he got his perm. Good training for
the thinning that's currently advancing his hairline.
The modern world teaches us to set standards, create goals, and
strive to meet them. In other words, to perform. While that may
work in business, it creates in you a continuous state of tension.
At some age, you'll realize as much as you love your parents, that
you have to make your own choices and lead your own life. That's
when the real growth from Tantra begins: realizing that whether
you satisfy some manufactured set of values or achieve your latest
challenging goals or not, you made them up anyway.
Tantra is spiritual because it helps us realize that success isn't
determined by external measures or whether you win the races
you enter. The true measure of our success in life is how we feel.
And not when all is said and done. It's how we feel enroute.
If you believe in God or any other supreme power, then you must
accept that your life, your spirit, your body are divine gifts. As is
the free will to choose how to lead your life. Tantra teaches us
that life is about making choices to create joy for ourselves first
and then others. This has nothing to do satisfying a vengeful
creator who's set up a game that ends in heaven or hell. Tantra
believes you can create heaven on earth by knowing yourself and
seeking pleasure now.
So drop those outside values that don't work for you. Let go of
society's artificial standards. Release the false judgments and
criticisms you've accepted of how you lead your life. Accept all
aspects of yourself whether they match what others think or not.
Sure, if down deep you want to change some part of yourself, go
right ahead with Tantra's help. Just do it for the right reason,
because on the way and in the end you'll feel better about
yourself.
